Hearing Aid Dispensers, also known as Hearing Instrument Specialists, are not required to have a degree in hearing sciences. In fact, many states only require a high school diploma, some training and the ability to pass a test about hearing aids.
Audiologists, on the other hand, have received an education on hearing loss through their respective universities. Some Audiologists have Masters degrees, while others have a professional doctorate in the discipline of audiology - an AuD. Dr. Kevin Ivory has a doctorate in Audiology from Rush University Medical Center and has been an instructor at both California State University, Los Angeles and California State University, Northridge.
